I am aware that Pit Bulls were originally bred to be good family/watch dogs, and people keep saying that they get a bad rap. Their bad rap is brought on by people getting a dog that they have no idea how to raise. Like all dogs they need a firm hand and lots of love, however mostly they don't get the proper training starting at an early age and many times no training at all. Then when the owners have this growing dog that they can not handle, off to the pound it goes. People like Caeser Milan are out there in the public showing all of these sweet loving Pit Bulls and people think and act on the idea that they all come like that. We need a lot more education and to slow down the breeding of these dogs; it is unfair to the dogs and the foolish people who don't do through research before getting any dog. I read and researched for over a year before deciding on the Chinese Crested PowderPuff I'm sure this is excessive but during that time I changed my mind several times. Maybe the Crested will not be the dog I think it is, as each dog is an indivdual, but I did make an educated decission, not just emotional.
I agree with you, Carolyn. Education is the key. I am just like you. If I am interested in in buying anything ...I study about it...look at Consumer Reports....and make an educated decision.
You would think that an animal that could live with someone up to 20 years would deserve that same ammount of study, too. God Bless.
